Indirect speech is essential when reporting travel problems.
Basic indirect speech:

dass vs. ob:
- dass (that) — for statements: Er meinte, dass das Hotel voll ist.
- ob (whether/if) — for yes/no questions: Sie fragte, ob ich Hilfe brauche.
Reporting in travel situations:
- Der Beamte sagte, dass ich zum Konsulat gehen soll. (The official said I should go to the consulate.)
- Man hat mir erklärt, dass die Erstattung sechs Wochen dauert. (I was told that the refund takes six weeks.)
