विनम्रता वाले modal verbs
पड़ोसियों से विनम्रता से बात करने के लिए modal verbs बहुत ज़रूरी हैं। ये सबसे उपयोगी संरचनाएँ हैं।
"Would you mind...?"
कुछ माँगने का सबसे विनम्र तरीका:
- Would you mind turning down the music?
- Would you mind not parking in front of my door?
"Would you mind" के बाद gerund (-ing) का उपयोग होता है।
"Could you please...?"
विनम्र लेकिन सीधा अनुरोध:
- Could you please keep the noise down after 10 pm?
- Could you please move your bins?
यह "Can you...?" से अधिक विनम्र, लेकिन "Would you mind...?" से कम औपचारिक है।
"I was wondering if..."
अनुरोध को बहुत नरम ढंग से शुरू करने के लिए:
- I was wondering if you could keep it down a bit?
- I was wondering if it would be possible to share the parking space?
यह संरचना अनुरोध को नरम बनाने के लिए past continuous का प्रयोग करती है। यह बहुत ब्रिटिश शैली है!
विनम्रता से जवाब देना
- "Of course, no problem!" (स्वीकार करना)
- "I'm sorry, I didn't realise." (माफ़ी माँगना)
- "I'll try my best." (वादा करना)

आम गलतियाँ
Would you mind to turn down the music?Would you mind turning down the music?"Would you mind" के बाद gerund (-ing) आता है, "to" नहीं।
Could you to please be quiet?Could you please be quiet?"could you" के बाद "to" नहीं आता; infinitive बिना "to" होता है।
I wonder if you can be quietI was wondering if you could be quiet"I was wondering if... could" present simple से अधिक विनम्र है।
Sorry for to bother youSorry to bother you"sorry" के बाद "to" + infinitive आता है, "for to" नहीं।
My neighbour is very noiseMy neighbour is very noisy'Noisy' विशेषण है; 'noise' संज्ञा है।
Could you to stop the music?Could you stop the music?'Could' के बाद 'to' नहीं आता।
