Future Plans with "gaan" + Infinitive
Expressing future plans
In Dutch, the most common way to talk about future plans is gaan + infinitive (similar to English "going to"):
- Ik ga reizen → I am going to travel
- Wij gaan naar Spanje vliegen → We are going to fly to Spain
- Zij gaat een hotel boeken → She is going to book a hotel
Conjugation of gaan
- ik ga, jij gaat, hij/zij gaat, wij gaan, jullie gaan, zij gaan
Willen + infinitive for wishes
Use willen for what you want to do:
- Ik wil naar Amsterdam reizen → I want to travel to Amsterdam
- Wij willen een week blijven → We want to stay a week
Questions about plans
- Waar ga je naartoe? → Where are you going?
- Wanneer vertrek je? → When do you leave?
- Hoe lang blijf je? → How long are you staying?
