Saying the time Use number + 点 for the hour, then add minutes:
- 三点 — 3 o'clock
- 三点三十分 — 3:30 (thirty minutes past three)
- 三点半 — 3:30 (half past three — 半 = half)
- 三点一刻 — 3:15 (quarter past three)
- 三点四十五分 — 3:45
Saying "X minutes to" Use 差 + minutes + 点:
- 差五分三点 — Five minutes to three (2:55)
Time of day Add time-of-day words before the time:
- 早上八点 — 8 AM
- 下午三点 — 3 PM
- 晚上十点 — 10 PM
