Le futur en anglais : will vs going to

Pour organiser un road trip, tu as besoin de parler de tes projets et décisions. L'anglais utilise deux formes principales pour le futur.

Going to — plans décidés à l'avance

Be + going to + infinitif

Utilise going to quand tu as déjà décidé de faire quelque chose :

  • *We are going to visit the Scottish Highlands.* → On va visiter les Highlands écossais.
  • *She is going to book the campsites in advance.* → Elle va réserver les campings à l'avance.
  • *I am going to drive the first leg.* → Je vais conduire la première partie.

Will — décisions spontanées et promesses

Will + infinitif

Utilise will pour une décision prise au moment où tu parles, ou pour une promesse :

  • *"We need fuel." — "I'll stop at the next service station."* (décision spontanée)
  • *I'll help you plan the route.* (promesse)
  • *Don't worry — it will be an amazing trip!* (prédiction générale)

Prédictions : going to vs will

  • Going to = preuve visible, évidence : *Look at the map — we're going to get lost!*
  • Will = opinion, conviction personnelle : *I think it will be the best trip of our lives.*

Exemples concrets

  • *We're going to take the scenic route through Wales.*
  • *If we get tired, we'll stop at a service station.*
  • *I'm going to plan the itinerary tonight.*
  • *I think it'll take about five hours to reach the destination.*

Erreurs fréquentes

  • We will visit Edinburgh next week — we booked everything.
We are going to visit Edinburgh next week.

Quand le plan est déjà décidé et organisé, on utilise «going to», pas «will».

  • I am going to help you — what do you need?
I will help you — what do you need?

Pour une offre ou décision spontanée au moment où on parle, on utilise «will», pas «going to».

  • It going to rain — look at the clouds.
It is going to rain — look at those clouds.

«Going to» doit toujours être précédé du verbe «to be» correctement conjugué (is/am/are).

  • I think we going to stop in Glasgow.
I think we are going to stop in Glasgow.

Le verbe «be» est obligatoire dans la structure «be going to» — on ne peut pas l'omettre.

  • We will to drive to the coast
We will drive to the coast

Pas de 'to' entre 'will' et le verbe.

  • The travel takes 3 hours
    The journey takes 3 hours

'Journey' pour un trajet, 'travel' est plus général.
