Politics and Democracy in Polish
Substantive clauses with że after verbs of thinking and saying:
- Uważa się, że demokracja jest najlepszym systemem. — It is considered that democracy is the best system.
- Twierdzą, że referendum było uczciwe. — They claim that the referendum was fair.
- Wiadomo, że obywatele mają prawo głosu. — It is known that citizens have the right to vote.
Collective nouns and agreement:
- Rząd podjął decyzję. — The government made a decision. (singular agreement in Polish)
- Partia rządząca ogłosiła wyniki. — The ruling party announced the results.
Political vocabulary register: Polish politics distinguishes between formal and colloquial registers. Use rozporządzenie (decree) rather than colloquial papier (paper) in formal contexts.
