Concise Writing in Hindi

Writing concisely in Hindi requires mastering the art of eliminating redundancy while preserving meaning. At the C1 level, you should aim for सारगर्भित (sārgarbhit — pithy) prose that conveys maximum impact with minimal words.

Key principles:

• Avoid compound verbs when a simple verb suffices. Instead of कार्य को संपन्न करना (kārya ko sampann karnā), simply use करना (karnā — to do) when context is clear.
• Use postpositions precisely. Hindi postpositions like के लिए (ke liye), के बारे में (ke bāre meṅ), and के द्वारा (ke dvārā) can often be trimmed.

Wordy: इस विषय के बारे में मेरा यह मानना है कि…

Concise: मेरे अनुसार… (mere anusār — in my view)

• Replace light verb constructions. Hindi often uses करना (karnā) as a light verb: मदद करना (madad karnā — to help). At C1 level, consider using the single verb सहायता देना (sahāyatā denā) or restructuring the sentence.
• Leverage compound words. Hindi's ability to form compounds like जनसंख्या (jansaṅkhyā — population) instead of लोगों की संख्या (logoṅ kī saṅkhyā) makes writing tighter.
• Cut filler words like वास्तव में (vāstav meṅ — actually), बिल्कुल (bilkul — absolutely) unless they add genuine emphasis.
