Academic Hindi: Hedging and Epistemic Humility
Hedging (अनिश्चितता का भाषाई संकेत) is the use of linguistic devices to signal uncertainty, tentativeness, or limitation of claims — a hallmark of sophisticated academic writing.
Modal Hedges:
- हो सकता है कि... (It may be that...)
- संभव है कि... (It is possible that...)
- यह माना जा सकता है कि... (It may be assumed that...)
- इस बात की संभावना है कि... (There is a possibility that...)
Epistemic Verbs:
- यह प्रतीत होता है कि... (It appears that...)
- यह संकेत करता है कि... (This indicates that...)
- यह सुझाव देता है कि... (This suggests that...)
- यह दर्शाता है कि... (This shows that / demonstrates...)
Limiting Phrases:
