Speech act theory (Sprechakttheorie) shows that speaking is acting. When a mayor says "Ich erkläre Sie zu Mann und Frau," they are not describing — they are performing a performativ act. Austin and Searle formalised this idea by distinguishing locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts.

In German, Framing — the way a topic is framed — profoundly influences perception. Speaking of Flüchtlinge (refugees) or illegale Einwanderer (illegal immigrants) radically changes the Diskurs. Political Rhetorik exploits these mechanisms.

Euphemismen soften reality: freisetzen (to release) for entlassen (to dismiss). Dysphemismen do the opposite, loading words with negative emotion. Some topics remain Tabu in German-speaking culture, and the aufgeladen words we use to discuss them reveal our ideological positions.

Mastering these concepts enables you to decode Propaganda and communicate with acute linguistic awareness.
