专业英语中的简洁写作
在专业英语中，最受重视的能力之一是简洁而精确地写作。忙碌的英语读者欣赏直入主题、不绕弯也不重复的文本。
消除冗长表达
把常见的冗长英语换成更直接的形式：
- due to the fact that → because
- in order to → to
- at this point in time → now
- make a decision → decide
- give consideration to → consider
黄金规则：如果能用更少的词表达同一意思，就这样写。
主动语态与被动语态
主动语态通常更直接有力：
- 被动：The report was written by the team.
- 主动：The team wrote the report.
被动语态在淡化行动者或突出对象时仍有用，但不应成为默认选择。
删除重复
- completely finished → finished
- future plans → plans
- past history → history
- end result → result
写完一段后，问自己：核心意思是什么？ 如果不能用一句话概括，段落可能不够清晰。
表达
- Every word should earn its place简洁写作的基本原则
- When in doubt, cut it out删除多余词语的实用规则
- Get straight to the point直接切入重点
- Tighten up this paragraph要求精炼一段文字
- Use active voice wherever possible建议尽可能使用主动语态
- Eliminate redundant phrases建议删去重复表达
- This sentence does twice the work in half the words.赞扬有效且简洁的改写
- Ask yourself: does this word earn its place?用以删除多余词语的修订标准
常见错误
Due to the fact that the meeting was cancelled...Because the meeting was cancelled...“Due to the fact that”很冗长，始终可以直接改为“because”。
It is important to note that the results were positiveThe results were positive这段开头没有增加信息。
In order to achieve our objectivesTo achieve our objectives“In order to”可用更短也同样准确的“to”代替。
The decision was made by the management teamThe management team decided主动语态更直接，也明确说明谁采取了行动。
At this point in time, we are currently experiencing difficulties.We are experiencing difficulties.at this point in time 与 currently 在时间意义上重复；简洁写作应删除这种重复。
The reason why the project failed is because of poor planning.The project failed because of poor planning.The reason why... is because 是三重重复。直接使用主语、动词和 because 更优雅简洁。
