正式与非正式表达

在英语中，根据语境调整语域是 C1 的核心能力。同一个信息会因场合不同而有截然不同的表达方式。本节用中文讲解英语语域。

在高级、庄重的英语中，常用倒装来加强语气或提高正式程度：

Rarely do we encounter such sophisticated discourse. （我们很少遇到如此复杂的论述。）
Not only did she present the data, but she also challenged the methodology. （她不仅展示了数据，还质疑了方法论。）
Under no circumstances should the document be shared externally. （任何情况下都不应对外分享该文件。）
Seldom has the committee reached consensus so swiftly. （委员会很少如此迅速达成共识。）

这些结构常见于官方演讲、学术写作和正式通信。

口语：Can you help me out? → 庄重：Would you be so kind as to assist me?
口语：The plan failed. → 庄重：The proposal proved ineffectual.
口语：He is really good at his job. → 庄重：He demonstrates exemplary professional competence.

官僚语体（表格、行政事务）与外交语体（会议、谈判）差异很大。C1 英语使用者能自然地在这些子语域之间切换。

句首出现否定性副词（rarely、never、seldom）时，必须倒装：助动词在主语之前。

C1 使用者不会固定在单一语域中，而会随情境调整表达。

The report is commendable / exemplary / meticulously argued.
Very good 在高级职业或学术语境中太笼统、偏口语；应选择更精确的评价词。
~~Not only she presented the data but challenged the method.~~
Not only did she present the data, but she also challenged the method.
分句开头有 not only 时，必须使用助动词与主语倒装。
~~This language is appropriated for academic contexts.~~
This language is appropriate for academic contexts.
Appropriated 意为“占用、挪用”，这里需要形容词 appropriate；两词易混淆。
~~I would appreciate if you could send the report.~~
I would appreciate it if you could send the report.
appreciate 后接 if 从句时需要代词 it：这是固定的习惯表达。
