The Spanish alphabet
The Spanish alphabet has 27 letters — the same as English plus ñ (eñe). Here are the letters with their Spanish names:
A (a), B (be), C (ce), D (de), E (e), F (efe), G (ge), H (hache), I (i), J (jota), K (ka), L (ele), M (eme), N (ene), Ñ (eñe), O (o), P (pe), Q (cu), R (erre), S (ese), T (te), U (u), V (uve), W (uve doble), X (equis), Y (ye), Z (zeta)
Spelling your name
To spell aloud, say each letter by its Spanish name:
Example: "MARÍA" → eme - a - erre - i con acento - a
Use these phrases:
- ¿Cómo se escribe? → How do you spell it?
- Se escribe: eme, a, erre... → It is spelled: M, A, R...
- Con acento → with an accent mark
- Con tilde → with a tilde (ñ)
Email addresses
To dictate an email, you need:
- arroba → @ (at sign)
- punto → . (dot)
- guion → - (hyphen)
- guion bajo → _ (underscore)
Example: "maria@correo.es" → "maría, arroba, correo, punto, e, ese"
