Political discourse uses rhetorical devices to persuade audiences. Recognizing these techniques is essential for critical analysis at C1 level.
Key rhetorical devices:
- Anaphore (repetition): "Je veux une France qui..., je veux une France où..."
- Tricolon (rule of three): "Liberté, égalité, fraternité."
- Appel émotionnel: Using stories and imagery to evoke feelings
Analyzing political language:
- Le cadrage (framing): How an issue is presented shapes opinion
- Le récit (narrative): Politicians construct stories to explain complex issues
- Le sous-texte (subtext): The implied meaning behind the words
Critical questions to ask:
