Asking for Directions
The key question: Où est... ? (Where is...?)
- Où est la gare ? — Where is the train station?
- Où est le supermarché ? — Where is the supermarket?
- Où sont les toilettes ? — Where are the restrooms?
Prepositions of Place
Essential location words:
- en face de — across from: La banque est en face de la poste.
- à côté de — next to: Le café est à côté de la pharmacie.
- entre — between: Le parc est entre l'école et l'église.
- près de — near: C'est près de la gare.
- loin de — far from: C'est loin de l'hôtel.
Giving Directions
Use imperative forms:
- Allez tout droit. — Go straight ahead.
- Tournez à gauche. — Turn left.
- Prenez la première rue à droite. — Take the first street on the right.
- Continuez jusqu'au feu. — Continue to the traffic light.
"Il y a" — There Is / There Are
- Il y a une pharmacie à côté. — There is a pharmacy nearby.
- Est-ce qu'il y a un métro près d'ici ? — Is there a metro nearby?
