Adjective Agreement
French adjectives must agree in gender and number with the noun:
- Masculine: Il est grand. — He is tall.
- Feminine: Elle est grande. — She is tall. (add -e)
- Masculine plural: Ils sont grands. (add -s)
- Feminine plural: Elles sont grandes. (add -es)
Irregular Adjectives
Some adjectives have special feminine forms:
- beau → belle (beautiful)
- vieux → vieille (old)
- nouveau → nouvelle (new)
Describing Hair and Eyes
Il a les cheveux blonds. — He has blond hair.
Elle a les yeux bleus. — She has blue eyes.
Use avoir (to have) + definite article for physical features:
J'ai les cheveux courts. — I have short hair.
