Quantities at the market
When shopping at a Spanish market, you need to express quantities. Here are the key patterns:
- Un kilo de → A kilo of → "Un kilo de tomates, por favor."
- Medio kilo de → Half a kilo of → "Medio kilo de fresas."
- Una docena de → A dozen of → "Una docena de huevos."
- Un manojo de → A bunch of → "Un manojo de perejil."
- Un racimo de → A cluster of → "Un racimo de uvas."
¿Cuánto? / ¿Cuántos?
To ask about quantity or price, use cuánto (how much / how many). It agrees in gender and number:
- Masculine → ¿Cuánto? → ¿Cuántos?
- Feminine → ¿Cuánta? → ¿Cuántas?
Example: "¿Cuánto cuesta un kilo de manzanas?" → "How much does a kilo of apples cost?"
