Nonviolent Communication in Portuguese
Nonviolent communication (CNV) has four steps: observação (observation), sentimento (feeling), necessidade (need), and pedido (request).
Step 1: Observation Without Judgement
- Quando ouço que chegas tarde... — When I hear that you arrive late...
- Quando vejo que não respondes... — When I see that you do not reply...
Step 2: Expressing Feelings
Use "eu sinto" + emotion, not accusations:
- Eu sinto-me frustrado. — I feel frustrated.
- Isso deixa-me triste. — That makes me sad.
- Avoid: Tu fazes-me sentir mal. (accusatory)
Step 3: Identifying Needs
- Porque preciso de respeito. — Because I need respect.
- A minha necessidade é de segurança. — My need is for safety.
Step 4: Making a Clear Request
Use the subjunctive for polite requests:
- Gostaria que pudéssemos falar sobre isto. — I would like us to be able to talk about this.
- Poderias considerar outra abordagem? — Could you consider another approach?
Active Listening
- O que estás a querer dizer é que... — What you are trying to say is that...
- Se entendi bem, sentes que... — If I understood correctly, you feel that...
Zwroty
- Sinto-me... quando...I feel... when...
- Preciso de...I need...
- Gostaria que...I would like...
- Se entendi bem...If I understood correctly...
- Podemos encontrar uma solução?Can we find a solution?
