Talking about fitness goals in Portuguese uses the future tense and expressions of motivation.
Ir + infinitive (near future for decided plans):
- Vou correr todos os dias. — I am going to run every day.
- Vou inscrever-me no ginásio. — I am going to join the gym.
Futuro simples (more distant or aspirational goals):
- Um dia correrei uma maratona. — One day I will run a marathon.
- Melhorarei o meu desempenho. — I will improve my performance.
Expressing motivation:
- Não vou desistir! — I am not going to give up!
- Tenho de continuar. — I have to continue.
- O meu objetivo é perder peso. — My goal is to lose weight.
Expressing progress:
- Tenho feito progressos. — I have been making progress.
- Já consigo correr 5 km. — I can already run 5 km.
Tip: European Portuguese uses desporto (sport), not the Brazilian esporte. Similarly, ginásio (gym) instead of academia.
