Medicine of the future in German uses Futur with modal verbs to describe future possibilities.
Futur I with modals:
- Ärzte werden Krankheiten früher erkennen können. (Doctors will be able to detect diseases earlier.)
- KI wird bei der Diagnose helfen können. (AI will be able to help with diagnosis.)
- Patienten werden nicht mehr so lange warten müssen. (Patients will no longer have to wait so long.)
Structure: Subject + werden + ... + infinitive + modal infinitive
Speculating about the future:
- In Zukunft wird es möglich sein, ...zu... (In the future, it will be possible to...)
- Es ist denkbar, dass... (It is conceivable that...)
- Vermutlich werden wir bald... (Presumably we will soon...)
Key medical vocabulary:
- eine Krankheit heilen (to cure a disease)
- eine klinische Studie durchführen (to conduct a clinical trial)
- Nebenwirkungen haben (to have side effects)
Note the word order: with Futur + modal, the main verb and modal both go to the end as infinitives.
