Discussing contemporary art requires impersonal structures (unpersönliche Strukturen) that are common in German academic and critical discourse.
"Es wird + Partizip II" (impersonal passive):
- Es wird oft behauptet, dass moderne Kunst keine echte Kunst sei. (It is often claimed that modern art is not real art.)
- Es wird diskutiert, ob diese Installation Kunst ist. (It is being discussed whether this installation is art.)
"Man + Verb" (impersonal one):
- Man kann das Werk auf verschiedene Weisen interpretieren. (One can interpret the work in various ways.)
- Man sollte Kunst nicht nur nach dem Preis bewerten. (One should not judge art only by its price.)
