Ich möchte nach... fahren

To buy a ticket in German, the key structure is:

  • Ich möchte nach Berlin fahren. (I would like to go to Berlin.)
  • Ich hätte gern eine Fahrkarte nach München. (I would like a ticket to Munich.)

nach is used for cities and countries without articles:

  • nach Berlin, nach Hamburg, nach Deutschland

For countries with articles, use in + accusative:

  • in die Schweiz, in die Türkei

To specify the ticket type:

  • Einmal einfach nach Köln, bitte. (One single to Cologne, please.)
  • Zweimal hin und zurück nach Dresden. (Two return tickets to Dresden.)

To ask for information:

  • Wann fährt der nächste Zug? (When does the next train leave?)
  • Von welchem Gleis fährt er ab? (From which platform does it depart?)
  • Muss ich reservieren? (Do I need to reserve?)

Zwroty

  • Eine Fahrkarte nach Hamburg, bitte.A ticket to Hamburg, please.
  • Einfach oder hin und zurück?One way or round trip?
  • Gibt es eine Ermäßigung für Studenten? Is there a discount for students?
  • Der Zug fährt um 14 Uhr ab.The train departs at 2 PM.
  • Sie müssen am Schalter bezahlen. You need to pay at the counter.
  • Die Fahrkarte ist zwei Stunden gültig. The ticket is valid for two hours.

Typowe błędy

  • Ich möchte nach die Schweiz fahren.
Ich möchte in die Schweiz fahren.

For countries with articles, use in + accusative, not nach.

  • Eine Fahrkarte zu Berlin.
    Eine Fahrkarte nach Berlin.

For cities, say nach Berlin, not zu Berlin.

  • Einmal einfach zu Köln.
    Einmal einfach nach Köln, bitte.

Use nach for the destination and add bitte for politeness.

  • Der Zug fährt auf Gleis 3.
Der Zug fährt von Gleis 3 ab.

The train departs from (von) a platform. The verb is abfahren (separable).

  • Ich möchte ein Karte kaufen.
    Ich möchte eine Karte kaufen.

Karte is feminine, so you say eine Karte (feminine accusative).
