In this lesson, you will learn to plan a trip using two future tenses.
Le futur simple is formed by adding endings to the infinitive: -ai, -as, -a, -ons, -ez, -ont. For example: Je visiterai la Provence (I will visit Provence), Nous prendrons l'autoroute (We will take the highway).
Some common irregular stems: aller → ir-, avoir → aur-, être → ser-, faire → fer-, pouvoir → pourr-.
Le futur proche uses aller + infinitive for near or certain plans: Je vais réserver un camping (I am going to book a campsite).
When to choose? Use the futur proche for immediate or decided plans: Ce soir, on va partir. Use the futur simple for more distant or uncertain events: Un jour, je voyagerai en Asie.
In everyday speech, the futur proche is more common. The futur simple sounds more formal or literary.
