Present tense for seasonal habits

In Spanish, the present tense is used to talk about things you regularly do during a particular season. This is just like English "I swim in summer" — you use the same simple present.

En verano nado en el mar. → In summer I swim in the sea.
En invierno bebemos chocolate caliente. → In winter we drink hot chocolate.

Time markers: en + season

To say "in summer", "in winter", etc., Spanish uses en + the season:

en primavera → in spring
en verano → in summer
en otoño → in autumn
en invierno → in winter

Example: "En primavera las flores florecen." → "In spring the flowers bloom."

Regular -ar verbs in present tense (review)

yo → -o → nado
tú → -as → nadas
él/ella → -a → nada
nosotros → -amos → nadamos
ellos/ellas → -an → nadan

Example: "En verano nosotros nadamos todos los días." → "In summer we swim every day."

자주 하는 실수

~~En el verano nado.~~
En verano nado.
With seasons, Spanish does not use the article. Say en verano, not en el verano.
~~Hace mucho caliente en verano.~~
Hace mucho calor en verano.
With hacer + weather, use the noun calor (heat), not the adjective caliente (hot).
~~En invierno yo soy frío.~~
En invierno tengo frío.
In Spanish, you have cold (tengo frío), you do not are cold (soy frío).
~~La primavera es mi favorito estación.~~
La primavera es mi estación favorita.
Favorita goes after the noun and must agree in gender: estación is feminine → favorita.
~~En otoño las hojas cain.~~
En otoño las hojas caen.
The verb caer is irregular: caen (they fall), not cain.
