Quantifiers: expressing quantities

In Spanish, when you want to say how much of something you need, you use a quantifier followed by de (of):

una botella de — a bottle of: *Una botella de agua.* (A bottle of water.)
un kilo de — a kilo of: *Un kilo de manzanas.* (A kilo of apples.)
un paquete de — a packet of: *Un paquete de arroz.* (A packet of rice.)
una lata de — a tin of: *Una lata de tomates.* (A tin of tomatoes.)
un litro de — a litre of: *Un litro de leche.* (A litre of milk.)

At the supermarket

Useful structures for shopping:

*¿Dónde está el pasillo de la fruta?* — Where is the fruit aisle?
*¿Tiene bolsas?* — Do you have bags?
*La cesta está allí.* — The basket is over there.
*Esto está en oferta.* — This is on offer.

Comparing prices

*Es barato.* — It is cheap.
*Es caro.* — It is expensive.
*Es más barato que...* — It is cheaper than...

Ejemplo: "Necesito una botella de aceite y un kilo de naranjas. ¿Cuánto cuesta todo?" — "I need a bottle of oil and a kilo of oranges. How much does it all cost?"
