Talking about your daily routine in Spanish

Describing what you do every day is one of the most practical skills at the A1 level.

Present indicative — key verbs

Regular and irregular verbs you need for daily routines:

Comer (to eat) — regular -er verb:

  • *Yo como a las dos.* (I eat at two.)
  • *Nosotros comemos juntos.* (We eat together.)

Ir (to go) — irregular:

  • *Yo voy al trabajo.* (I go to work.)
  • *Ella va al supermercado.* (She goes to the supermarket.)

Reflexive verbs

Reflexive verbs describe actions you do to yourself. They use a reflexive pronoun (me, te, se, nos, os, se) before the conjugated verb:

  • Despertarse (to wake up): *Me despierto a las siete.* (I wake up at seven.)
  • Levantarse (to get up): *Te levantas temprano.* (You get up early.)
  • Ducharse (to shower): *Ella se ducha por la mañana.* (She showers in the morning.)
  • Acostarse (to go to bed): *Nos acostamos a las once.* (We go to bed at eleven.)

Important: The pronoun must match the subject: *me* for yo, *te* for tú, *se* for él/ella/usted.

Time of day

  • por la mañana — in the morning
  • por la tarde — in the afternoon
  • por la noche — at night / in the evening

Ejemplo: "Me despierto a las siete de la mañana. Desayuno y voy al trabajo. Como a las dos y por la noche me acuesto a las once." — "I wake up at seven in the morning. I have breakfast and go to work. I eat at two and at night I go to bed at eleven."
