After the failed January Uprising (1863), Polish Positivism shifted from Romantic rebellion to practical social work. *Praca organiczna* (organic work) meant developing industry and education within partitioned Poland. Key writers: Prus (*Lalka*, *Faraon*), Orzeszkowa (*Nad Niemnem*), Sienkiewicz (*Quo Vadis*, Nobel Prize 1905). Young Poland (1890-1918) then reacted against positivist utilitarianism, embracing aestheticism, symbolism, and decadentism. Wyspianski s *Wesele* synthesizes these tensions brilliantly.
