Argumentation Techniques in Polish Writing
Effective C1 argumentation requires mastering both the logical structure and the linguistic signals that guide readers through reasoning.
The classical structure:
- Teza (thesis): state your position clearly upfront
- Argumenty (arguments): develop 2–3 supporting points with evidence
- Kontrargumenty i odpowiedź (counterarguments and rebuttal): acknowledge opposition, then refute
- Wniosek (conclusion): restate thesis in light of developed reasoning
Key connective language:
*Po pierwsze... Po drugie... Wreszcie...* — Firstly... Secondly... Finally...
*Co więcej, należy zauważyć, że...* — Moreover, it should be noted that...
*Mimo to / Niemniej jednak...* — Nevertheless / However...
*Z powyższych względów można stwierdzić, że...* — For the above reasons, it can be stated that...
Hedging at C1:
- *Wydaje się, że...* — It seems that... (softens claims)
- *Można by twierdzić, że...* — One could argue that...
- *Dane sugerują, że...* — The data suggest that...
