Korean journalism has a distinct style shaped by the inverted pyramid structure and a tradition of formal, compressed language. Headlines compress clauses into noun-heavy strings without particles: 정부, 금리 인상 결정 (Government, interest rate hike decided). This headline grammar drops copulas, subjects, and endings to pack maximum information. News articles use the ~습니다 register throughout and prefer nominalized verbs as sentence cores: 발표하다 → 발표가 있었다 (there was an announcement). For quoting sources, Korean journalism uses ~(으)로 밝혔다 (stated), ~라고 전했다 (conveyed), or ~고 말했다 (said). Editorials (사설) differ from news articles: they use first-person plural 우리, make evaluative claims, and may employ rhetorical questions. Mastering both registers — neutral news reporting and argued editorial — is the mark of C2 written fluency.
