The post-truth era demands a sophisticated vocabulary for expressing doubt, qualification, and epistemic distance. In Korean, you achieve this through modal endings and concessive clauses. The structure 비록 ~(이)라도 signals concession: *비록 그것이 사실이라도, 더 깊은 맥락이 있다* (Even if that is true, there is a deeper context). For distancing yourself from unverified claims, use ~다고 한다 (it is said that) or the more formal ~(으)로 알려져 있다 (it is known that). 확증편향 (confirmation bias) operates when algorithm-curated feeds reinforce existing beliefs. Critically engaging with 허위정보 (disinformation) requires mastering expressions like *~을/를 비판적으로 검토하다* (to critically examine). At C2 level, aim to articulate not just what is claimed but how certainty, source, and framing shape perception.
자주 하는 실수
그 뉴스는 거짓이에요그 뉴스는 사실이 아닌 것으로 밝혀졌어요In formal discourse about misinformation, 거짓이다 is too blunt. 사실이 아닌 것으로 밝혀졌다 (it was revealed to not be true) adds epistemic precision and journalistic register.
알고리즘이 우리를 속여요알고리즘이 편향된 정보를 걸러냅니다속이다 implies intentional deception by the algorithm. The accurate framing is that algorithms filter (걸러내다) content, creating bias — a more nuanced technical claim.
비록 그것이 거짓이지만 믿었다비록 사실이 아님에도 불구하고 믿었다비록~지만 is used correctly, but 비록~에도 불구하고 is more formal and appropriate for academic discourse about post-truth phenomena.
여론이 조작됐어여론이 조작된 것으로 보입니다The informal 됐어 is inappropriate in analytical writing. 것으로 보입니다 adds epistemic qualification — appearing manipulated rather than asserting it as fact.
팩트체크를 안 하면 안 돼팩트체크 없이는 허위정보를 식별하기 어렵습니다The casual double negative structure is fine for conversation but not analytical writing. The formal version uses 없이는~기 어렵다 to make a measured claim.
