Academic Korean uses heavy nominalization — turning verbs and adjectives into nouns using -ㅁ/음. This allows complex ideas to become subjects or objects of sentences. For example: 연구가 증명함을 알 수 있다 (We can see that the research proves it), where 증명함 is a nominalized verb.
Korean academic texts also favor long, complex sentences with multiple embedded clauses. Key skills include identifying the main verb at the end, parsing subordinate clauses, and recognizing formal connectors like 따라서 (therefore), 즉 (namely), and 그러므로 (consequently).
Scan the 서론 (introduction) for the 가설 (hypothesis), the 본론 (body) for 분석 (analysis), and the 결론 (conclusion) for findings.
