Formal Speech: -ㅂ/습니다
Korean has multiple speech levels. In formal situations like job interviews, use -ㅂ/습니다 (formal polite):
- If verb stem ends in vowel: add -ㅂ니다
- 하다 → 합니다 (I do / it is done)
- 가다 → 갑니다 (I go)
- If verb stem ends in consonant: add -습니다
- 먹다 → 먹습니다 (I eat)
- 있다 → 있습니다 (there is / I have)
For questions: -ㅂ니까? / -습니까?
- 어디에서 일하셨습니까? — Where did you work?
To introduce yourself formally:
- 저는 [name]입니다. — I am [name].
- 잘 부탁드립니다. — I look forward to working with you.
Past experience: -았/었습니다 (formal past)
- 3년간 일했습니다. — I worked for 3 years.

자주 하는 실수
저는 김민준이에요저는 김민준입니다In a formal interview, use -입니다 not -이에요
경험 있어요 삼 년3년간 경험이 있습니다Duration comes first; use formal -있습니다 in interviews
열심히 일할게요열심히 하겠습니다-겠습니다 is the formal volitional; -할게요 is too casual for interviews
제 단점 없어요단점은 없습니다 / 제 단점은...Saying you have no weaknesses sounds unnatural; give a real answer in formal form
합니다 팀워크 잘팀워크를 잘 합니다Object 팀워크를 comes before the verb; adverbs 잘 immediately precede the verb
