Studying School Subjects
을/를 공부하다 — to study (a subject)
- 저는 수학을 공부해요. — I study mathematics.
- 영어를 공부해요. — I study English.
Object particles with school subjects:
- Use 을 after a consonant: 수학을, 음악을
- Use 를 after a vowel: 영어를, 역사를
Saying you like / dislike a subject:
- 수학이 좋아요. — I like maths. (subject + 이/가 좋아요)
- 역사가 싫어요. — I don't like history.
- 과학이 어려워요. — Science is difficult.
- 체육이 재미있어요. — PE is fun.
Useful school phrases:
- 숙제가 많아요. — There is a lot of homework.

자주 하는 실수
저는 수학이 공부해요저는 수학을 공부해요공부하다 takes a direct object marked with 을/를, not the subject marker 이/가. You study (을/를) a subject.
영어가 공부해요영어를 공부해요영어 ends in a vowel so the object marker is 를, not 이 (which is the subject marker).
수학을 좋아요수학이 좋아요좋다 (to be good/liked) uses 이/가 for what is liked, not 을/를. The sentence literally means "maths is good (to me)".
숙제 많이 있어요숙제가 많아요For quantities use 많다 as a predicate: 숙제가 많아요. 많이 있어요 is not wrong but 많아요 is the natural form.
오늘 시험 있어요?오늘 시험이 있어요?시험 needs the subject marker 이 in this existential sentence. Dropping particles is informal and should be avoided at A2 level.
