German Syntax is famous for its V2 (verb-second) structure in main clauses and verb-final position in subordinate clauses. This syntactic architecture creates the well-known Klammerstruktur (bracket structure) where the conjugated verb and the participle or infinitive frame the rest of the sentence.

German Morphologie is rich: four cases (nominative, accusative, dative, genitive), three genders, and a declension system affecting articles, adjectives, and pronouns. At C2 level, you must master subtleties like the Saxon genitive (*Goethes Werke*) or unlimited nominal compounds.

Semantik studies the meaning of words and sentences, while Pragmatik examines their use in context. The same utterance can carry radically different meanings depending on the Diskurs in which it occurs.

Understanding these branches of linguistics enables you to analyse the deep workings of German and enrich your own written and spoken production.
