Quantities (Mengenangaben)
German uses specific quantity words:
- eine Flasche Wasser — a bottle of water
- ein Kilo Äpfel — a kilo of apples
- ein Stück Kuchen — a piece of cake
- eine Packung Butter — a pack of butter
- eine Tüte Chips — a bag of chips
Note: Unlike English, German does NOT use "of" — no preposition needed!
Asking for Things
- Ich brauche... — I need...
- Haben Sie...? — Do you have...?
- Wo finde ich...? — Where can I find...?
Ich brauche eine Flasche Milch. — I need a bottle of milk.
Wo finde ich das Brot? — Where can I find the bread?
