Possessive Adjectives

French possessives agree with the thing possessed, not the owner:

mon / ma / mes — my (masculine / feminine / plural)
ton / ta / tes — your (masculine / feminine / plural)

Mon père est grand. — My father is tall.
Ma mère est gentille. — My mother is kind.
Mes frères sont jeunes. — My brothers are young.

Important: Before a vowel, use mon/ton even for feminine nouns:

Mon amie (not ma amie) — My friend (female)

The Verb "avoir" (to have)

J'ai — I have
Tu as — You have
Il/Elle a — He/She has

J'ai deux sœurs. — I have two sisters.
Tu as des enfants ? — Do you have children?
