There are... in... — 어디에 어떤 동물이 사는지

There are polar bears in the Arctic. → 북극에는 북극곰이 있어요.
There are kangaroos in Australia. → 호주에는 캥거루가 있어요.
There aren't any wolves in the UK anymore. → 영국에는 이제 늑대가 없어요.

Can / Can't — 동물의 능력

Eagles can fly at speeds of over 150 km/h. → 독수리는 시속 150km 넘게 날 수 있어요.
Dolphins can communicate with each other. → 돌고래는 서로 소통할 수 있어요.
Penguins can't fly, but they can swim very fast. → 펭귄은 날지 못하지만 아주 빠르게 헤엄쳐요.

동물을 설명하는 동사

hunt → 사냥하다
feed on → ~을 먹고 살다
live in herds / packs / flocks → 무리를 지어 살다
lay eggs → 알을 낳다
give birth to → ~을 낳다

동물에 관한 사실

Cheetahs can run faster than any other land animal. → 치타는 육지 동물 중 가장 빠르게 달려요.
There are over 400 species of sharks. → 상어는 400종이 넘어요.

주의: species, deer, sheep처럼 단수와 복수의 모양이 같은 단어가 있어요. 그래도 여럿을 뜻하면 there are를 써요.

자주 하는 실수

wolf의 복수는 wolves예요. 없다고 할 때는 there aren't any나 there are no로 말해요.

can 뒤에는 to 없이 동사원형을 써요.

can't 뒤에도 to 없이 동사원형이 와요.

여기서 species는 복수예요. there are를 써요.

can 뒤의 동사에는 -s를 붙이지 않아요.

deer는 단수와 복수의 모양이 같아요. 여럿이면 there are를 써요.
