This lesson covers three grammar patterns for expressing intentions, plans, and preparations — essential for travel planning.
〜つもりです (I intend to)
Expresses a firm personal intention or plan.
- 来月(らいげつ)京都(きょうと)に行(い)くつもりです。 (I intend to go to Kyoto next month.)
- 旅館(りょかん)に泊(と)まるつもりです。 (I intend to stay at a traditional inn.)
〜予定(よてい)です (I plan to / it is scheduled)
Expresses a scheduled plan — more concrete and objective than つもり.
- 10時(じゅうじ)に出発(しゅっぱつ)する予定です。 (We are scheduled to depart at 10.)
- 3泊(さんぱく)する予定です。 (I plan to stay for three nights.)
〜ておく (to do in advance / preparation)
Expresses doing something in advance as preparation. Colloquially contracts to 〜とく.
- ホテルを予約(よやく)しておきました。 (I booked the hotel in advance.)
- 荷物(にもつ)を準備(じゅんび)しておこう。 (Let's prepare the luggage in advance.)
表現
- 来週(らいしゅう)旅行(りょこう)に行(い)くつもりです。I intend to go on a trip next week.
- ホテルを予約(よやく)しておきました。I booked the hotel in advance.
- 3泊(さんぱく)4日(よっか)の予定(よてい)です。It is scheduled for 3 nights and 4 days.
- 出発(しゅっぱつ)の前(まえ)に荷物(にもつ)を準備(じゅんび)しておこう。Let us prepare the luggage before departure.
- 観光(かんこう)スポットを調(しら)べておきます。I will look up sightseeing spots in advance.
- 航空券(こうくうけん)はもう買(か)ってあります。I have already bought the airplane ticket.
よくある間違い
京都に行くつもりがあります。京都(きょうと)に行(い)くつもりです。つもりです is a fixed pattern. Do not add がある. つもり already conveys the intention without existence markers.
航空券をもう買いておきました。航空券(こうくうけん)はもう買(か)ってあります。When emphasizing the current state (ticket is bought), use 〜てある (resultant state) rather than 〜ておく (preparatory action). Also, 買い+ておく is incorrect; use 買っておく.
