誘い方：Shall we / Let's / How about
英語には、相手を何かに誘う言い方がいくつかあります。
Shall we + 動詞？
一緒に何かをしようと誘うときに使います（ややイギリス英語的）。
"Shall we go to the cinema tonight?" → "今夜映画を見に行きませんか？"
"Shall we meet at 7pm?" → "19時に待ち合わせしましょうか？"
Let's + 動詞
直接的で乗り気な誘い方です。
"Let's have a picnic on Saturday!" → "土曜日にピクニックをしましょう！"
"Let's try that new restaurant." → "あの新しいレストランに行ってみましょう。"
How about + 動詞-ing？
もう少しやわらかい誘い方です。
"How about going to a concert?" → "コンサートに行くのはどうですか？"
"How about meeting at the park?" → "公園で待ち合わせるのはどうですか？"
誘いへの返事
- 受ける：That sounds great! / Perfect! / Why not?
- 丁寧に断る：I'm sorry, I can't. / That doesn't work for me. / Maybe another time?
- 代案を出す：I can't on Saturday, but how about Sunday?
表現
- What are you doing this weekend?週末の予定を尋ねるときに使う。
- Let's do something fun!楽しいことをしようと誘うときに使う。
- How about going to the cinema?やわらかく活動を提案するときに使う。
- Shall we meet at 7pm?待ち合わせ時刻を提案するときに使う。
- That sounds great!誘いを喜んで受けるときに使う表現。
- Maybe another time?丁寧に断りつつ余地を残すときに使う。
- I'm afraid I can't make it誘いを丁寧に断るときに使う表現。
- Are you free on Saturday?土曜日に都合がつくか尋ねるときに使う。
よくある間違い
How about to go to the cinema?How about going to the cinema?How aboutの後は-ing形を使い、to不定詞は使いません。
Let's to go bowlingLet's go bowlingLet'sの後は原形の動詞を使い、toは付けません。
Shall we to meet at 7?Shall we meet at 7?Shall weはすでに助動詞なので、直後に原形の動詞が続きtoは不要です。
That sound greatThat sounds greatthatは三人称単数扱いなので、動詞に-sを付けます。
What about go to the park?What about going to the park?"What about"の後には動詞の-ing形を使います。
I will can come tomorrowI will be able to come tomorrow助動詞を2つ重ねることはできないので、"will"+"be able to"を使います。
