First conditional: Se risparmio / Se tagliamo
The first conditional in Italian expresses realistic financial conditions and their consequences. Structure:
Se + present indicative , + future simple
Financial examples
- Se risparmio di più, potrò comprare un'auto → If I save more, I will be able to buy a car
- Se tagliamo le spese, ce la faremo → If we cut expenses, we will manage
- Se investi ora, guadagnerai di più in futuro → If you invest now, you will earn more in the future
- Se spendo meno, avrò più soldi per le vacanze → If I spend less, I will have more money for holidays
The phrase "farcela"
*Farcela* (to manage / to make it) is a very useful idiomatic verb in financial contexts:
- Ce la faremo → We will manage
- Non ce la faccio a pagare l'affitto → I can't manage to pay the rent
Condition with a future tense (for less certain situations)
For a less certain condition, you can also use the future in the *se* clause:
- Se avrò abbastanza soldi, viaggerò → If I have enough money, I will travel
