In a bank, as in any formal context, the conditional is essential to express requests politely.
Vorrei (I would like)
Vorrei is the conditional form of volere (to want). It is the most polite way to make a request or express a wish.
- Vorrei aprire un conto corrente → I would like to open a current account
- Vorrei richiedere un prestito → I would like to apply for a loan
- Vorrei fare un bonifico → I would like to make a bank transfer
Potrebbe (Could you)
Potrebbe is the conditional form of potere (to be able to), used for polite requests addressed to your interlocutor.
- Potrebbe spiegarmi le condizioni del prestito? → Could you explain the loan terms to me?
- Potrebbe inviarmi l'estratto conto? → Could you send me the bank statement?
- Potrebbe dirmi qual è il tasso di interesse? → Could you tell me the interest rate?
