Struttura di un saggio argomentativo

Un buon saggio in inglese segue una struttura chiara in tre parti: introduzione, corpo e conclusione.

1. Introduzione

  • Gancio per catturare l''attenzione
  • Contesto generale dell''argomento
  • Tesi (thesis statement): la tua posizione in una o due frasi

*"While technology has transformed modern life, its impact on privacy raises serious concerns."*

2. Corpo del saggio (body paragraphs)

Ogni paragrafo segue la struttura PEEL:

  • Point: l''idea principale
  • Evidence: esempio o dato
  • Explanation: come supporta la tua tesi
  • Link: transizione al paragrafo successivo

Parole di transizione utili

  • Aggiungere: *Furthermore, In addition, Moreover*
  • Contrastare: *However, On the other hand, Nevertheless*
  • Illustrare: *For example, For instance, To illustrate*
  • Concludere: *Therefore, Thus, In conclusion, To sum up*

3. Conclusione

  • Riassumere i punti chiave
  • Riformulare la tesi (senza copiarla)
  • Aprire a una prospettiva più ampia o a una domanda

Non iniziare mai un saggio accademico con "I think..." o "In my opinion..." nelle prime righe — presenta prima il contesto.

Espressioni

  • This essay will argue that...Introdurre chiaramente la tesi del saggio
  • Furthermore, this is supported by...Aggiungere un argomento con prova
  • However, critics argue that...Introdurre il controargomento in modo sfumato
  • In conclusion, it is clear that...Aprire la conclusione e riformulare la tesi
  • To illustrate this point...Introdurre un esempio concreto a supporto di un
  • On the other hand,...Segnare una transizione verso un punto di vista
  • To sum upPer introdurre una sintesi o una conclusione
  • On the one hand... on the other handPer presentare due aspetti opposti di un argomento

Errori frequenti

  • In my opinion, I think that social media is bad.
Social media has been shown to have negative effects on...

Nell'inglese accademico, evita la ridondanza 'In my opinion, I think'. Preferisci una formulazione impersonale e basata sui fatti.

  • This proves that my thesis is right.
This supports the argument that... / This suggests that...

'Proves' è troppo categorico in un contesto accademico. Usa 'supports', 'suggests' o 'indicates' per mantenere la sfumatura.

  • In conclusion, I talked about three things.
In conclusion, this essay has argued that...

La conclusione non deve riassumere ciò che hai 'detto' ma riformulare la tesi e gli argomenti in modo sintetico.

  • In one hand, this is good; in other hand, it is bad.
On the one hand, this is good; on the other hand, it is bad.

L espressione fissa è on the one hand... on the other hand.

  • Firstly, I will talk about the environment. Secondly, I will talk about economy.
Firstly, I will discuss the environment. Secondly, I will discuss the economy.

In un saggio formale, si usa discuss anziché talk about, e economy richiede l articolo the.

  • In conclusion, I think that pollution is bad. We should to protect nature.
In conclusion, I think that pollution is harmful. We should protect nature.

Should è seguito dall infinito senza to. Bad è troppo colloquiale — harmful è più appropriato.
