Esprimere giudizi morali in inglese

Esprimere indignazione

  • It''s unacceptable that… → È inaccettabile che…
  • It''s outrageous that… → È scandaloso che…
  • There is no excuse for… → Non c''è scusa per…

Esempio: "It''s unacceptable that the company ignored the safety reports."

Esprimere un obbligo morale

  • Companies should be held accountable for… → Le aziende dovrebbero rendere conto di…
  • It is the duty of… to… → È il dovere di… di…
  • We have a moral obligation to… → Abbiamo l''obbligo morale di…

Esprimere sfumature

  • While I understand the business case, it doesn''t justify…
  • On the one hand… on the other hand… → Da un lato… dall''altro lato…
  • The line between… and… is often blurred. → Il confine tra… e… è spesso sfumato.

Suggerimento: In inglese, si usa talvolta il congiuntivo dopo espressioni come "It''s essential that he be transparent" (non "is").

Espressioni

  • To turn a blind eye toChiudere un occhio su qualcosa
  • To hold someone accountableRitenere qualcuno responsabile
  • Actions speak louder than wordsI fatti contano più delle parole
  • To blow the whistle onDenunciare una pratica illegale o non etica
  • To draw the lineStabilire un limite morale

Errori frequenti

  • It's inacceptable that...
    It's unacceptable that...

  • The company has a conflict of interests
The company has a conflict of interest

  • He did a misconduct
    He committed misconduct

"Misconduct" è non numerabile in inglese. Si dice "committed misconduct", non "a misconduct".

  • The whistleblower has been fired for denounce
    ...for denouncing the fraud

  • The company behaved in an unethical way by hiding the facts.
The company acted unethically by hiding the facts.

Si usa l avverbio unethically con il verbo acted, non in an unethical way.

  • He was accused for fraud.
    He was accused of fraud.

Accused è sempre seguito dalla preposizione of, non for.
