Il discorso indiretto semplice (Reported Speech)
Quando racconti quello che qualcuno ha detto, usi il discorso indiretto. È molto utile quando viaggi e devi spiegare una situazione.
Con "told" (dire a qualcuno)
Si usa told + persona + that:
- He told me that the flight was delayed.
- She told us that we needed a visa.
"Told" ha sempre bisogno di un complemento (me, him, her, us, them).
Con "said" (dire)
Si usa said + that (senza persona):
- He said that the hotel was fully booked.
- She said the bus left at 8 am.
"That" è spesso facoltativo: "He said the hotel was full" è corretto ugualmente.
Con "asked" (chiedere)
Per riportare una domanda, si usa asked + if/whether:
- She asked if I had travel insurance.
- He asked whether I could speak English.
Attenzione: nel discorso indiretto, l''ordine delle parole torna normale (niente forma interrogativa).
Il cambio di tempo verbale
In generale, il verbo arretra di un tempo:
- "The flight is delayed" → He said the flight was delayed
- "We can help you" → She said they could help us
