Structuring a Presentation in Polish
Polish presentations follow a clear three-part structure with specific linguistic signals.
Standard structure:
- Wstęp (introduction): grab attention, state the topic and thesis
- Rozwinięcie (body): 3–5 main points with supporting arguments and examples
- Zakończenie (conclusion): summarize, reinforce thesis, call to action
Signpost phrases (zwroty organizujące):
- Opening: Tematem mojego wystąpienia jest... / Chciałbym Państwu przedstawić...
- Transitioning: Przejdźmy teraz do... / Kolejnym zagadnieniem jest...
- Adding: Ponadto,... / Co więcej,... / Należy również wspomnieć o...
- Concluding: Podsumowując,... / Na zakończenie chciałbym podkreślić, że...
Formal vs semi-formal register:
In Polish presentations:
- Państwo (ladies and gentlemen / you, formal plural) addresses the audience formally
- Szanowni Państwo adds extra deference
- Passive voice is common: Zostanie omówione..., Przedstawione zostaną...
