Saying Where You're From
To say where you are from in Korean, use the pattern:
[Country/City] +
I came from the USA
I came from France
The particle 에서 marks the place of origin. 왔어요 is the past tense of 오다 (to come).
To ask where someone is from:
- 어디에서 왔어요? — Where did you come from?
— What country are you from? (lit. "Which country person are you?")
Nationalities in Korean are formed by adding 사람 (person) after the country name:
- 한국 사람 — Korean person
American person
French person
So to say "I am Korean," say: 저는 한국 사람이에요.
