Latin American Slang

- Bacán (Argentina, Chile): cool, great

Registers and Context
- Spanish slang is highly regional: a common word in Spain may be unknown in Mexico
- Argentine voseo ("vos tenés") is colloquial but not vulgar
- Spanish "tú" is used in contexts where other countries would use "usted"
Watch Out for Slang False Friends
- Coger: to take/grab (Spain) vs vulgar meaning (Latin America)
- Joder: very common in Spain, highly vulgar elsewhere
