Days and months in Spanish

Knowing the days of the week and months of the year lets you make plans, talk about schedules, and set dates.

Days of the week

In Spanish, days of the week are not capitalized: lunes, martes, miércoles, jueves, viernes, sábado, domingo

Important: The week starts on Monday in Spanish-speaking countries.

Months of the year

Months are also not capitalized: enero, febrero, marzo, abril, mayo, junio, julio, agosto, septiembre, octubre, noviembre, diciembre

Time prepositions

These prepositions are essential for talking about when things happen:

• el + day — on a specific day: *El lunes tengo clase.* (On Monday I have class.)
• los + day — every (repeated): *Los martes juego al fútbol.* (On Tuesdays I play football.)
• en + month — in a month: *En enero hace frío.* (In January it is cold.)
• por la mañana / tarde / noche — in the morning / afternoon / evening: *Trabajo por la mañana.* (I work in the morning.)

Useful time words

• *hoy* — today
• *mañana* — tomorrow (also means "morning")
• *ayer* — yesterday
• *la semana que viene* — next week
• *el mes pasado* — last month

Ejemplo: "Hoy es lunes. Mañana es martes. El viernes voy al cine y en febrero tengo vacaciones." — "Today is Monday. Tomorrow is Tuesday. On Friday I go to the cinema and in February I have holidays."
