At B2 level in Italian, nuancing your speech relies on concession and opposition connectors. These words let you express complex ideas with precision.
Sebbene + subjunctive
Expresses a concession (even though, although). Always followed by the subjunctive.
Sebbene sia stanco, continuerò a lavorare.
(Even though I'm tired, I'll keep working.)
Nonostante + subjunctive
Similar to sebbene, but can also introduce a noun phrase.
Nonostante le difficoltà, ha superato l'esame.
(Despite the difficulties, he passed the exam.)
Mentre (concession / contrast)
Expresses contrast between two simultaneous or opposing situations.
Mentre lui parla poco, lei è molto loquace.
(While he speaks little, she is very talkative.)
Tuttavia (however / nevertheless)
Opposition connector used mid- or end-sentence.
Il progetto è ambizioso; tuttavia, è realizzabile.
(The project is ambitious; however, it is achievable.)
Practical tip
Combine these connectors for richer, more nuanced discourse: Sebbene il problema sia complesso, tuttavia esistono soluzioni concrete.

Malgrado che piove, esco.Malgrado piova, esco.Malgrado does not take 'che' and requires the subjunctive.
