翻译与改编：忠实还是流畅？
每一次翻译都包含一个根本选择：你是紧贴源文本（fidelity），还是让目标语言中的体验自然流畅（fluency）？中文翻译中的“归化”和“异化”讨论，与这里的核心问题相通。
归化与异化
劳伦斯·韦努蒂（Lawrence Venuti）将这两种相反的方法理论化：
- 归化（domestication）：调整表达，让读者感觉亲切熟悉。例如，在面向大众的文本中，把 the Super Bowl 解释为“全国橄榄球冠军赛”。
- 异化（foreignization）：保留源文本的陌生感，以呈现其文化差异。例如，把法语小说译成英语时保留 dîner，而不直接改成 dinner。
假朋友词与词汇陷阱
假朋友词是匆忙译者的敌人：
- sensible（英语）≠ 法语 sensible：英语中意为“明智的、理性的”。
- sympathetic（英语）≠ 法语 sympathique：英语中意为“富有同情心的”。
汉英互译也有类似风险：形式看似接近的词，并不一定承担相同的语气、文化含义或搭配。
不可译性
有些词没有精确对等词：
- 葡语 saudade：带怀旧色彩的忧郁思念。
- 德语 Schadenfreude：因他人的不幸而感到快乐。
- 日语 mono no aware：对无常与短暂之美的敏感。
文学翻译
文学翻译是一种创造性的重写。伊夫·博纳富瓦翻译的莎士比亚法语本、斯科特·蒙克里夫翻译的《追忆似水年华》英语本，本身都是独立的作品。
表达
- To render the spirit, not the letter传达深层精神，而非逐字翻译
- To betray the original偏离原文的意义或语气
- To find the right word选择最准确、最贴切的词
- Lost in translation指无法完整传递到另一种语言中的内容

常见错误
I translated word for word to be faithful.I sought the functional equivalent of each expression.逐字翻译常会产生生硬的文本；真正目标是功能对等。
This word is untranslatable so I left it in English.This word has no exact equivalent; I opted for an explanatory paraphrase.不可译性不是死路，而是邀请你寻找创造性的解决方案。
Machine translation is sufficient for this literary text.Machine translation can serve as a starting point, but thorough human revision is essential for literary texts.文体与文化细微差别会超出自动工具的把握范围。
I translated sympathique as sympathetic.I translated sympathique as likeable or warm, depending on context.法语 sympathique 与英语 sympathetic 是假朋友词；sympathetic 意为“富有同情心的”。
A good translation should be invisible.A good translation may appear fluent, but the translator's choices — visible or invisible — always shape the reader's experience.“隐形译者”的神话（韦努蒂）偏向归化，可能牺牲外来声音。译者是否可见是合理的选择。
I translated the idiom literally to preserve the original.I adapted the idiom to an equivalent expression in the target language to preserve communicative impact.逐字译习语会破坏交际意义。处理比喻表达时，功能对等比词汇忠实更重要。
