The Art of Persuasive Writing in Chinese
Persuasive writing (说服性写作) in Chinese at C1 level requires mastering three classical rhetorical pillars adapted to Chinese discourse:
1. Logical Appeal (逻辑诉求) Build your argument with clear premises and evidence:
- State your thesis (论点) explicitly at the outset
- Support each claim with concrete data (数据) or examples (例证)
- Use connectives like 因此 / 由此可见 / 综上所述 to signal reasoning
2. Emotional Appeal (情感诉求) Move the reader without manipulating:
- Use vivid imagery and concrete human stories
- Appeal to shared values: 公平 (fairness), 责任 (responsibility), 未来 (future)
- Avoid excessive sentimentality — balance emotion with reason
3. Credibility (信誉 / 权威) Establish trustworthiness:
- Cite authoritative sources: 据研究表明… / 专家指出…
- Acknowledge counterarguments honestly before refuting them
- Use hedging language appropriately: 在一定程度上 / 不可否认
Structure of a Persuasive Essay:
- Opening: hook + context + thesis (引入 + 背景 + 论点)
- Body: 2–3 supporting arguments, each with evidence + analysis
- Counterargument + rebuttal: 诚然… 然而…
- Conclusion: restate thesis + call to action (呼吁行动)

常见错误
我相信这个观点是对的，因为我觉得很重要。这一观点的重要性体现在……，相关研究表明……Personal feelings (我相信 / 我觉得) weaken persuasive writing. Replace subjective impressions with evidence-based reasoning.
虽然有些人反对，但那些人是错误的。诚然，部分人士对此持保留意见，然而……Dismissing opposing views without engagement undermines credibility. Acknowledge and refute counterarguments respectfully.
总之，我们应该做这件事。综上所述，我们有充分理由……，因此呼吁各方共同……Vague conclusions weaken impact. A strong conclusion restates the thesis and includes a specific call to action.
